New District Boundries

It’s hard to believe that I am in my twelfth and final year of serving as the State Representative for House District 66.  The journey has been very challenging as well as very fulfilling and I look forward to working hard for our district and finishing strong.

I have actually been through the redistricting process twice now during my twelve-year stint as your state representative.  Every 10 years, the Legislature is required by the state Constitution to redraw legislative and congressional district boundaries to account for population shifts as recorded by the most recent U.S. Census. The goal is to ensure equal representation within each state House and Senate district and within each U.S. congressional district.

Currently, there are 101 House District members, each representing approximately 37,100 residents (within a margin of three percent).  Over the course of the past ten years, the population of Oklahoma has grown and now the 101 House District members will each be representing approximately 39,775 residents (within a margin of 2.5 percent).

Now that redistricting plans have been approved by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Stitt, I wanted to inform constituents in House District 66 of the changes impacting our district that will be effective after the November elections are held. Our district will continue to cover Osage and Tulsa counties. Residents in Sand Springs still will make up the largest part of House District 66.  Because some of the surrounding rural districts needed to gain population to reach the approximate 39,775 residents necessary to make their district whole, District 29 picked up some of South Sand Springs.  The new southern boundary will be 41st Street in Sand Springs with the northern boundary expanding further into Osage County picking up the cities of Sperry and Skiatook.  Highlights of the new district include Tulsa Botanical Garden, John Zink Ranch, Skiatook Lake, William Pogue Airport, and Keystone Ancient Forest.

Just to clarify, I still represent the constituents that elected me in our last election. Our new district boundaries will take effect later this year after the November election.  Since I am term limited, constituents within the new boundaries will be represented by the newly elected representative following the election.
