New Greens, New Clubhouse, New Members

New Greens, New Clubhouse, New Members

Sand Springs is home to The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge, a stunning and recently renovated golf course.

Brian Talley, Director of Golf, shared with us the recent updates to the club, their upcoming calendar, and how community members can find more information.

The Canyons had a two-part renovation in 2020: renovations to the greens complex and a full remodel of the clubhouse. For those who aren’t familiar with golf terminology, let’s break down exactly what those are!

“The greens complex is the putting surface and everything around it,” Brain shares. The greens received a new shape, size, contour, and installation of ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass. The irrigation system was replaced with new polyethylene pipe irrigation and Toro heads to maintain the quality of the greens. Not only were the greens updated, but the sand bunkers were updated as well. The bunkers around the greens and in the fairway received a new shape and a Better Billy Bunker drainage system with beautiful white sand. Brian also shares about the second part of the renovation: “The Clubhouse underwent a full face lift inside and out with a new layout of the building incorporating a new pro shop, grill, and banquet hall. This layout makes for a more usable and inviting building.”

One of the many things that Brian spoke of was the love of Sand Springs. “This natural landscape is ideal for creating a very desirable course that is set apart from others,” Brian says. The location of the golf course is in the rolling hills of Blackjack Ridge and makes for a picturesque landscape that golfers love to try and conquer. Golf season ramps up in March when the warmer weather rolls in. “We currently have over 60 events booked for this year starting in March,” says Brian. While we try to rid COVID-19, Brian shares that The Canyons “follow the CDC and city guidelines for the safety of our customers”.

All of the information on membership and events happening at the course can be found on their website, www.thecanyonsatblackjackridge.com. They also have a Facebook page, @canyonsatblackjackridge, where they share what is going on at the course.
