A Peek at the Renovations at The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge

Many businesses have been closed for a majority of spring due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge have another reason for their temporary closure: they’re undergoing major renovations to their 18-hole golf course and clubhouse.

The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge, formerly known as Osage Hills Country Club, was built in 1953 and was last renovated in 1991. The citizens of Sand Springs approved the funding for the current renovations ???? an authorization of more than $2 million ???? in a general obligation bond election in 2018.

The golf course will receive a $1 million renovation that features new greens, sand bunkers, cart trails, tee boxes, and a greens irrigation system. The greens will be resurfaced with champion G12 bermuda grass, which is capable of supporting Oklahoma’s unique need to transition from warm-season grass to cool-season grass, and the sand bunkers will use crushed limestone imported from Arkansas.

Around the clubhouse, golfers will notice a newly remodeled interior and exterior, which is being renovated for around $1 million. “We basically took the clubhouse down to its four exterior walls,” says Brian Talley, the Director of Golf at the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge. Renovations for the clubhouse include a new banquet facility, which will allow Sand Springs residents to book the space for private events, and upgraded restrooms. The banquet space will feature state-of-the-art facilities and flat-screen LCD TVs, which will make it popular for conferences and business meetings.

Tentatively scheduled to re-open on August 1st, the course at Canyons at Blackjack Ridge is available for public play, though memberships are available and provide many perks. Members enjoy reduced rates and preferred tee times, and special discounts are available for seniors.

Whether you’re a regular or new to the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge, members and guests alike will enjoy the challenging, geographically-unique course tucked away in the hills just north of Sand Springs ???? especially now that the greens and clubhouse have received modernized improvements!
