CURRENT MAGAZINE:

Sand Springs Community Services (SSCS) is a basic needs organization that helps our community. They are a not-for-profit agency with a mission to help Sandites in need when they are experiencing a crisis.

This wonderful organization was founded by a local civic group, as well as churches, in 1928 but under a different name. The original name of SSCS was Springs Welfare Association. It wasn’t until 1998 that the name changed to Sand Springs Community Services.

In 1982 they applied for and were granted a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Then they became funded through donations from individuals, churches and civic groups. Through large gifts or grants from some organizations SSCS has been a blessing to thousands of Sandites!

Today they still rely on donations from the community and organizations in Sand Springs so they can help the people living in our community facing crisis. They accept monetary donation, non-perishable food donations, and gently used clothing and housewares (tax receipts are always available).

SSCS continues to grow and be able to help more families each year. In 2016, the organization gave over 2,000 food orders and financially assisted with over 300 utility and rent emergencies. This is all possible because the community gave to SSCS.

We Are Sand Springs (WASS) and River Stone Dry Cleaning & Laundry recently got the chance to visit this SSCS. Together WASS and River Stone had a coat drive in November/December called Sand Springs Winter Coat Drive. During this time coats were collected for those who don’t have a way to stay warm this winter. All the coats received were donated to SSCS. It was so wonderful to see how incredibly grateful the people at SSCS were to see the coats. We asked what they still need for the months of January and February and they said there is always a need of coats this time of year because they go fast. Also, canned meat (chicken, tuna, Vienna sausages, etc…), ramen noodles and peanut butter/jelly are always needed.

After getting a chance to speak with Lisa at SSCS, it makes us all want to give a little more after learning how much they do for the community. We encourage you to look around your house and see if there are any clothing items that are gently used that no longer fit. Or, pick up a few extra canned food items next time you go to the grocery store. Every donation matters, no matter how small or large. They all help our community.

We want to say a big thank you from We Are Sand Springs and River Stone Dry Cleaning and Laundry to all of those who came in and donated a coat. We couldn’t have done this without you. We also want to say thank you to Sand Springs Community Services for taking these coats and putting them into the hands of people in our community who need them the most.
