Kelly Smith is in his 15th season as head coach of Sand Springs Wrestling Program at Charles Page High School (CPHS). Coach Smith’s dual record speaks toward his dedication to the program, 120–41. As of January 2017 his team’s highest finish at state is 3rd and highest finish in duals is state runner-up. He has coached state champs such as Znick Ferrell (2), David Jones (1), and Daton Fix (3).
As a CPHS graduate, class of 1992, Coach Smith was a state runner up through Sand Springs wrestling program and played football for Sand Springs. After wrestling at the high school level, Coach Smith went on to wrestle for Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri.

Coach Smith is dedicated to the sport and his records mentioned attest to that. Kelly Smith’s coaching of Sand Springs Wrestling program – although great – is not, in our observation, his biggest accomplishment. During our time with Coach Kelly Smith we learned that he is above all else a family man and a team player. For every question we asked about him he would tell us how proud he is of one of his children Audrey, Claire, and Mitchell or his wife or mother or father. For every one of his accomplishments we acknowledged he pointed to his coaching staff (Dustin Kinard, Jay Fleischman, Tedon Fleischman, Earl Shockley, Andrew Flores, Ronnie Luce, and Derek Fix) and the athletes.
Both Coach Smith and his wife are teachers in Sand Springs. Mrs. Smith (Janet Smith) teaches Pre-K at Angus Valley Elementary (Go Warriors!) and Coach Smith teaches a number of courses at CPHS – one of which is leadership. Leadership requires skills that at any angle of observation are simplistically complex but when dedicated to learning these skills, one only needs to look towards Coach Kelly Smith.
