CURRENT MAGAZINE:

With warm weather here to stay, who wants to fill up on heavy, greasy foods then be in a swimsuit all day?  I’m not sure that’s anyone’s idea of a good time. You can fill up on foods just a delicious without all the bloating and guilt afterwards.  Here are a few healthy summer swaps you can make so you can feel your best without the post-lunch crash.
Bratwurst:
Love bratwurst but not the calorie count? Did you know they make turkey bratwurst that taste just as good (no really) with WAY less saturated fat.  We best your friends would never even know the difference!
French Fries:
Crunchy, greasy and loaded with fat, but also an american staple.  Instead, try making sweet potato wedges in coconut oil.  Sweet potatoes offer more nutrients and are a slow digesting carb (a good thing) and the coconut oil will offer lots of heart healthy fats!
Chips & Dip:
Ranch, french onion, sour cream, oh my! Just one dip is never enough!   Did you know that just 2 tablespoons of ranch dip can pack 120 calories and 17 grams of fat! Yikes!  Try swapping your creamy dips for some salsa! At about 8 calories and .5 grams of fat per 2 tablespoons you can indulge in much more without packing on extra pounds all summer!
Banana Split:
I won’t even mention how many calories one of these babies usually packs.  Instead, try freezing a few ripe bananas then blending them up in a blender until they are creamy.  So healthy! You can even try adding some peanut butter or a little unsweetened cocoa powder! We promise you will be just as satisfied!
Pasta Salad:
Pasta salads are a summer go-to when it comes to cookouts and pool parties.  However, they are usually very high in calories. One recipe that has become a weekly must around our house is Tomato, Cucumber, Feta and Quinoa Salad.  Quinoa is a great source of fiber and iron and is also one of the most protein rich foods you can eat.  It’s also loaded with cucumbers and tomatoes.  You could even sub those in for your favorite veggies like red peppers or broccoli.  Check out the recipe here!
