The City of Sand Springs announced that firework permits will go on sale for $20 (cash only) at the City’s Fire Administration Office, 108 E Broadway St. beginning Monday, June 8th.  Permit sales will last through Thursday, July 2nd.
Office hours will be extended to 6pm the week of June 29th so that citizens can purchase their permits after normal business hours.  No permits will be sold on Friday, July 3rd as City offices will be closed to the Independence Day Holiday.
“Citizens who wish to celebrate the holiday with their own fireworks need to remember that improper or careless activities can cause serious injuries, fires and property damage,” said Sand Springs Fire Marshal Stan Smith.  “The City’s permit process has been in place for several years now and has been successful with educating people in responsible use of common fireworks.”
All permits sold will include an information sheet with fireworks safety tips.
City fireworks permits must be purchased by an adult age 18 or older who serves the responsible party for activities at an individual residence. Permits are non-transferable.  Residential streets can be used as a fireworks discharge area, provided residents do not hinder traffic and clean up and debris.
Youths under age 18 must be supervised when discharging fireworks, and parents can be held responsible for unsupervised incidents.
The pre-set court fine for illegally discharging of fireworks in the city limits is $154. However, a maximum fine of $500 plus court costs can be imposed for serious or repetitive violations.  Fees collected from permits offset overtime costs by police and fire officials who patrol neighborhoods to assure fireworks are being discharged responsibly with a valid permit.
