The 2018 Tulsa State Fair is upon us. From September 27th to October 7th, you and your family can enjoy the Tulsa area’s largest event, providing educational experiences and entertainment for 11 days straight.

Here are several foods you usually see at the fair that you can make in your own home!

Mexican Corn

We see it every year… the famous Mexican Corn stands at the Tulsa State Fair! The creamy, cup-filled goodness of sweet corn… My mouth is watering just writing about it. It’s pretty much corn reinvented!  Want to make it at home? HERE’S HOW.

What you’ll need…
(2) 15.25 Ounce cans whole kernel corn, drained
(1) 8 ounce package cream cheese
¼ cup butter
10 jalapeno peppers, chopped
1 TSP Garlic Salt
1 Pinch Cayenne pepper
How long it will take…
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Ready: 20 minutes
How to prepare…

  1. In a medium pan, combine corn, cream cheese, butter, jalapeno peppers and garlic salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes or until heated through, stirring constantly until cream cheese beings to melt.
  3. To top off, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.

The Donut Burger

Another mind blowing tradition at the Tulsa State Fair… the donut burger takes donut lovers to the next level. Surprisingly, you don’t need to be an expert chef to make it. We’ll show you!

What you’ll need…
1 Glazed Donut, cut in half (OR TWO if you’re feeling it)
2 Slices Pre Cooked Bacon (Or regular if you want to pan cook it)
⅓ Pound Ground Beef
⅛ Teaspoon Salt
1 Pinch Black Pepper
2 Slices American Cheese
How long it will take…
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Ready: 20 minutes
How to prepare…

  1. Prep your ground beef into a well-rounded patty and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Place on the grill for approximately 3 minutes each side, or until cooked the way you want it. Meanwhile, cook your bacon as instructed on the package in the microwave.
  3. With about 1 minute left, throw your two slices of cheese on top.
  4. When nicely melted, slide your burger onto one of the donut halves, neatly placing the bacon on top.
  5. Cover with the other half donut and you’re ready to eat!

Fried Bacon Funnel Cake Fries

Everything about this title makes you want to cry tears of joy. The fact that it’s fried is first. Then you add bacon to the mix… oh my. And then funnel cakes??? You must think we’re crazy. Well, we’re not… and here’s how you can whip this up in your house in about 30 minutes.

What you’ll need…
1 Strong Sense Extreme Fair Food Hunger
¼ Cup Granulated Sugar
2 Eggs
3-4 Cups Oil (Canola or Vegetable)
½ TSP Granulated Salt
1 TSP Baking Powder
1 TSP Vanilla Extract
½ Cup Milk
2 Cup Flour
1 Package Bacon
Powdered Sugar (As much as you like to top)
1 Jar Marshmallow Dip (Optional)
How long it will take…
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Ready: 30 minutes
How to prepare…

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt until fine.
  2. Then place eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a separate bowl and mix until it’s foamy and well-blended.
  3. Slowly combine the flour mixture with the other bowl until texture is consistent and batter is thick
  4. Cook all of your bacon until done, either on stove or in the microwave
  5. Roll the bacon in the batter until thickly coated
  6. Add about an inch of oil into a large pan and heat oil to about 350 degrees fahrenheit

TIP: If you don’t have a candy thermometer, wait about 5 minutes or test the oil with a small amount of batter (if it’s smoking it’s too hot)

  1. Put the battered bacon in the oil for about 30-60 seconds each side until golden brown
  2. Remove the bacon fries and place on paper towel to drain oils
  3. Place fries on a plate and top with powdered sugar
  4. Serve with marshmallow dip, heated in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds
