We’re so happy Sand Springs has been heading into 2017 with our best foot forward! The Gerdau Steel Mill site, now owned by OmniTRAX, will be transforming rapidly this year. OmniTRAX is currently working through some documentation processes (COI, MSA’s scope of work, contract, etc.) and should be starting demolition of structures at the mill that are not essential to its functioning within the next 40-60 days, according to Sand Springs Railway Company Terminal Manager James Tilton. OmniTRAX is in the process of leasing retail and industry space at the mill site in the area shown in purple in the photo below. In addition, the City of Sand Springs is moving many of its departments to the 10-acre area off of Morrow Road, shown in blue in the photo below. Stay tuned for announcements of retailers moving into the space and construction updates!

Construction is set to begin soon to widen Morrow Road. With the relocation of city offices to the steel mill site, the road must be widened to accommodate emergency vehicles.
Construction has already begun at Case Community Park around Wekiwa Road. This park enhancement project is the largest in Sand Springs history! Once finished, the park will have paved walkways, a variety of new sports areas, a new playground near the Splash Pad, better lit and additional parking, new shelters and remodeled bathrooms, among other improvements. There will also be a special event stage and “The Great Lawn,” which will be similar to Tulsa’s Guthrie Green. Construction should be wrapping up in about a year. Look for more updates on the park in our February digital magazine!

The Sand Springs Home’s structure on 2nd Street is off to a great start. Construction should continue steadily throughout the next few months. The River West area is ready for new businesses to move in – you can see El Maguey already on its way! Stay tuned for announcements of more new businesses moving to the River West area throughout the year.
