The Sand Springs Ministerial Alliance is helping kids get ahead this coming school year with the group’s 2018 Back to School Supply Giveaway event happening on August 12th.
Those who need supplies can show up from 2-4 p.m. to catch a free haircut, get a new backpack, and pick up common school supply items such as paper, pencils and glue sticks.
Hillspring Church’s Pastor Brent Kellogg, an executive member of the alliance, expressed his excitement that everyone is coming together to help less fortunate kids have a great start to the school year.
We are churches and ministries working together helping Sand Springs be the best community that it can be.
Tulsa Tech started the giveaway event several years ago before inviting the ministerial alliance to help. The event is still held at the Tulsa Tech Sand Springs Campus, off of Charles Page Boulevard, partly because of the facilities’ great cosmetology department. Pastor Kellogg says the event works best on a Sunday because multiple hairstylists will be available to help school-aged kids get their haircut for free.
Last year, more than 11 churches participated in helping with the giveaway. This year, Pastor Kellogg says there are too many to count, so he doesn’t want to leave anyone out!
If you’re interested in donating to the cause, the alliance asks you make the donation through your own church. Donations, both tangible and monetary, are due by July 16th.
Once inside the Tulsa Tech campus, the right conference room will be the hub of the school giveaway. The haircuts are held in another part of the building.
If you are a student or parent of a student and feel that you would like to attend on August 12th it is important to know that you do not need to be a member of any church to partake in the event.
